Just Play Sports Sampling

Audience: Youth & Young Adults 6 -17

Duration: 6 - 8 weeks

Program Overview

Just Play Sports Sampling gives male and female youth from the ages 6 - 17 the opportunity to sample numerous sports at three different levels. Specifically designed for low-income and under resourced neighborhoods, the goal of the program is to encourage the youth to stay healthy, active, and away from negative activities in their communities. Youth can participate in any or all levels offered.

Level 1

Free play which allows participants to have fun and develop their skills while building lifelong relationship with their friends. Youth will be supervised by coaches, high school and college players who will give feedback and pointers.

Level 2

Participants attend developmental camps and are educated on the rules, regulations, and fundamentals of the game. Youth will also participate in drills, and skill development training activities. 

Level 3

Small group and individual training sessions.

Level 4

Players who demonstrate the proper skill level and knowledge of the sport will be able to join our house leagues and participate in local and travel teams games. There will also be individual skill practice and team game practice, to help prepare players mentally and physically for middle school, high school, college, or other modified sports.

Objectives

• For participants to have fun playing various sports in a safe environment.
• For participants to learn the rules and regulations of each sport via educational materials and hands on activities.
• For participants to be active and promote a healthy lifestyle.
• For participants to build positive /healthy relationships with coaches and other players through, group mentoring sessions, team building exercises, recreational and educational field trips, events, celebrations, and banquets.
